Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Astoria Queens LIC New York Omni Martial Arts
BJJ evolved from Kodokan Judo and uses leverage, positioning, chokes and joint locks to defeat an opponent on the ground. Mixed Martial Arts fighters like Royce, Rickson and Renzo Gracie, BJ Penn, Minotauro Nogeira, Frank Mir and many others have showed the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in no holds barred competition.
Beyond the obvious combat aspect of jiu jitsu, men and women who train BJJ will find amazing parallels to their own lives in the way they handle themselves on the mat. The level of self awareness one can build with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is truly remarkable.
Omni's Jiu Jitsu students also learn Judo throwing techniques which set them apart from other BJJ practitioners. While most students train for recreation, Omni competitors have garnered victories at the World Masters, LI Pride, Boston Open, Good Fight and Big Apple Open BJJ tournament, among others.
Classes are taught by Sensei Julio Rivera, World Seniors Champion. Omni Martial Arts Astoria is the only school in Queens that is a member of the Vitor Shaolin Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association, and our BJJ program is under direct supervision of Professor Shaolin, a four time world champion. We also offer no gi BJJ.
